I know this video is 8yrs old but I’m curious on why you have the tweeter in and woofer out on the Genelecs???
Antelope amari is better then rme adi-2 dac fs pro?
Awesome!
Real mastering session
Ok, but why is it recorded so bad?
haha I love how this is really Bob showing off how pissed he is that someone remastered something he worked on and made it stupid loud.
Two computers rather than Dither?
thanks
Pete does not get the first question.... He ask would it hurt to record in the same computer at the wrong sampling rate.... would doing that and converting degrade the outcome? that was not hard.
This is definitely a stone age for modern software VSTs for mastering. Not that it is impossible to make great things with it (knowledge and ear is the king), but I guess it's definitely harder to achieve some things. This is mostly for hardware fetishists. Also, imagine how much noise it's added when you do DA and then AD.
Caveman rig gets the job done! I think you are imagining the "added noise."
… and thats why all the legendary hits are mastered/mixed on ANALOG gear. If you like TikTok ringtones i guess VST can work for you. This is for the big boys!
@@frutini I bet there are some great legendary hits made digitally, ain't it?
@@Essential-Electronic-Music fisher - losing it is not a legendary hit
You are the weakest link, and clearly don't understand a lick of what you're talking about or the gear that you just saw.
Is it possible to use the TC 6000 mkII with the iZotrope OZone 8?
Excellent interview. Such a funny recording story !
Hlo Ken Hahn can I will be a great artist??
I swear, why do you people make such a fuss, a bit of distortion never hurt anyone, in fact, the human ear itself isn't linear, distortion is quite natural. Also, spacemonkey is just the price you pay for smaller file sizes. I had like 100mb per month back when this video came out, even with the compression I could only download like a couple of songs a month, not everyone has the luxury of infinite mobile internet. Intersample peaks being a problem you should care about is mostly a myth. Just because YOU finetuned your ears to hear any ammount of dystortion as a problem doesn't mean everyone does, most just percieve it as some extra edge to the music just dont overdo it and it's fine transient peaks can easyly clip by 3db and it still sounds just fine.
Push girls down hills pat Coyne.fucking goof
Great lecturer!
All this processing and thousands of dollars in mastering just for people to listen to the finished product with ipod-tier earbuds and 10 dolar speakers, lol
One new artist CD I recently was listening had her music so over compressed that when I was listening to her disc at medium volume, the overload protection circuit kicked in on my stereo. I cant even listen to the whole CD without getting a headache, and this is a soft pop artist.
I can understand how Sinatra feels. He wants to sing with an orchestra and he’s not use to singing to dubbed music. The Chairman of the Board is old school and the way I see it, if Francis Albert wants a live orchestra, he should have it. They should of did it his way. I don’t even like the idea of the duets album. As far as I see it, I want the singers to be together with a live orchestra not the way they did it. Like, having Barbra Streisand record her part and mail it in. That seems so fake. I want to know that they met and sung together with an orchestra. Call me old school but to me, that’s how magic is made, recording live together. Setting a mood. I know this guy is good at his job as a recording dubbing expert but you gotta understand something, these type entertainers like Sinatra can’t do that. They need to have the real thing, otherwise they can’t sing inside a recording booth with earphones on having dubbed music piped in. It’s like having sex, you want the other person in on it. Not watching them moan on a recorded video taped 6 months ago.
WTF happened to this product? just BS?
What's wrong with u I knew he liked to sing w orchestra and I never met him. No respect
Are you the guy who masters why not Meri jan
Its cool because what he's talking about has actually been put into action by spotify etc; they use lufs now to analyse tracks as opposed to peaks
Onde encontro esse pluguingo?
This is helpful in understanding the function of the same mode in the native plugin version.
As I understand, DXP is boosting or lowering bands before compressor threshold (not after, like in standard multiband compressor mode).
Good discussion. Camera jiggle is distracting though.
I wish he had talked about Led Zeppelin II since his mastering is considered the best by most people.
people still use hardware? why?
the R+L unlinked reverb idea seems cool, never heard of it
If a video is about mastering their will be more viewers if one actually can hear some music, or even better, watch some of the mastering process.
RIP
Hello, I bought a TC LM2 rack, I need the USB Driver for win 7 to be able to use it with the TC Icon. Can someone help me ???
Excellent lecture. Learned a lot
This holds true til this day.
Great stuff man thanks!
Great video. Great easy info. Wonderful set up. Short & complete. Thx
Im glad they updated the 6000 with upgraded hardware and software. The sound your getting with it is very nice
Thank you!
I don't need transients when I'm jumping dirt mounds and crushing cars in Grave Digger. I DO, however, need maxed-out sonic carnage. Not everyone doesn't drive monster trucks, Bob. Not everyone doesn't listen to things besides lossless Beck verses in Grave Digger, Bob.
So I am 82 years old, was a singer with the Cantare Chorale, and still enjoy "live" recordings of singers, with the band, with the audience, with whatever mistakes are made. It is just real. Even my kids, who know nothing about music can tell the difference. My son, all of ten years old heard Benny Goodman, "Swing swing swing," 1938, and loved it. I do have a home theater system, but he never stopped for disco. That Moog synthesizer stuff. And unfortunately with rap and hip-hop that is all you hear. Not me. Turk Murphy. Uptown Lowdown Jazz Band. Royal Society Jazz Orchestra. Did I say I was old?
100 years from now nobody will know Pete Doell's name but I'm pretty sure the name Frank Sinatra will still be cherished. The "Duets" Album is kind way for other artist to pay homage but the executives knew that without Frank on an album paying homage to him it wouldn't sell, hence we got "Duets" and it's basically an engineers album not an artistic work.
I worked with Sinatra on the very first LIVE performance for the Jerry Lewis Telethon I was the video recording engineer. Frank was a PROFESSIONA of the highest caliber. A very nice person as well.
WoWww what ehh voice... Hollywood's loss... He must have been a real ladies man during his times. 😉
There should be a mandatory hearing test for all involved in music production over 40 yrs old. Coldplay sound crap (well done bob)
